Applying to the WNU Summer Institute

WNU Fellowship applicants must provide evidence of meeting ALL the following requirements:

(1) Currently employed in the industry, with at least 3-4 years’ relevant work experience in the nuclear industry or in government
(2) Master’s degree in science, engineering, or business; or reactor operator’s licence; or equivalent experience;
(3) Knowledge of nuclear fundamentals;
(4) Demonstrated academic or professional excellence;
(5) Maximum age of 37, with exceptions to be considered on the basis of unusual merit; and
(6) Proficiency in English, particularly oral communication, which is essential for effective participation in the WNU SI programme.

The cost of participation is a tuition fee of about 11,750 Euros plus travel to and from Oxford, UK. The tuition fee will cover all coursework, lodging and meals. While attending the Summer Institute, Fellows will occupy individual rooms during the academic programme, visit nuclear facilities, enjoy a diverse programme of social events and excursions, and have weekends available for recreational activities.

Participants from industry and government will be expected to cover their own expenses. Some applicants from developing countries who are officially endorsed by their government may be eligible to apply for International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) assistance via the Technical Cooperation (TC) program. The IAEA offers a limited amount of full and partial (50%) tuition fees and travel coverage for attendance at the World Nuclear University Summer Institute for Member States eligible to participate in the TC programme. If you intend to apply for IAEA assistance, please notify us on your application form, and specify whether you will be applying for the full or 50% funding.  If you are selected to participate in the WNU-SI, you will receive further instruction thereafter on the procedure on how to apply to the IAEA for funding. 

Selection of WNU Fellows will be made through a consultation process, led by the WNU Coordinating Centre.. The selection process will place considerable weight on the applicant’s demonstrated leadership potential.
 
The aim of the selection process will be to recruit a synergistic, internationally diverse mix of top young professionals already in government or the nuclear industry.
